Are bedbugs really that bad?

Just how bad are bed bugs? If you were able to at least get the problem under control and were not over run with them, could it be acceptable? People have all kinds of bugs that are nasty like fleas, roaches, stored product pests. Fleas will bite. What if we just learned to live with them? Ok...that is a crazy question and an insane thought.
